Default 99 jagyar xk8 convertible wont start

have a 99 xk8 convertible that will run on strarting fluid but seems to not be getting gas. codes showing up are p 1637,1642,1646, and c 1137. should I separate the fuel line from the filter to see if I have pressure there? have checked fuses and relays. is there any easy way to replace the fuel pump?
thanks jim

Hey Jim, haven't seen any posts from you for a while. Most of your codes make me suspect the battery is failing or needs charging.

As to the fuel pump, the short answer is no. You either have to get underneath and disconnect the fuel iines or cut a hole in the parcel shelf like I did.

I would be happy to come over and commiserate, thereby ignoring some of the stupid problems my cars are causing.

hey rj it has a brand new battery but I'm am suspecting the alternator is bad was underneath the car trying to check the connection and saw that is was coverered with oil grabbed the oil filter and was able to turn it by hand evidently the last place that changed the oil never tightened it up. also have read that when the car first starts it should put out about 15 v for a short period of time. my gauge never moves and when the old battery was in it it would drop down to 10 volts many times.

The voltage gauge, like the temp. and oil gauges is not to be relied on. Check the voltage both at the battery and bulkhead fuse boxes with a digital voltmeter. I'm not sure I believe the 15 V startup story, but it really doesn't matter if you read about 13.3 or more while running.
