Default ABS failure in the rain

Hi,

I've been having intermittent ABS failures ( the ABS/Stability control failure warning ) since I bought my car. After not getting it all summer, I had my car washed and the error came back straight away. After a couple of hours it was gone again.

That leads me to believe that water ingress into the system is the problem. Does anybody know where the most likely place the problem is likely to be?

It's almost always a connector that gets wet, but not necessarily the one on the module.

Are there 8 connectors ( sensor + module * 4 ) ?

Or are there more I can look at? I don't think there's any water ingress under the bonnet, as the sound proofing has never been wet.

If there's only 8 connectors, I suppose I could attack my car with a hosepipe and test different areas until it fails, if that's all there is.

Check the condition of the rubber boots at the base of the harnesses on the wheel speed sensors. They crack and split with age, allowing water ingress. I cleaned them up and covered the boots with globs of neutral-cure silicone. Bought a tube of it at Lowe's for about six bucks. My wife reports no ABS or DSC warnings since I did this more than two years ago....

Whenever I rotate the tires I clean the wheel speed sensors, check the condition of the silicone, and add more if needed....

Works for me....
