Carpet dye
Hello again, my carpets ( front mats ) are in very good condition, but it looks on close inspection that someone has either spilt something on the front ones or the sun has got to them. There is a slight reddish tinge to them, was wondering if someone could advise on the colour code from the pic, looks like almond or similar. I have removed the front ones and washed them in case something was still contaminating the colour but they were clean, also steam cleaned them, still the same. Was wondering if there was a dye available in a colour that was similar, its a shame as they are to good to discard. I know I can get some after market ones for about £50 ( thanks Graham ), but just exploring possibilities at this time. Any comments welcome.
Cheers,
ArtyH

looks like oxblood shoe polish
if that is the case, then try white terry cloth with a little bit of lighter fluid to see if it comes off on the terry cloth. if you see red on the cloth, then more scrubbing will eventually remove it. of course, you want to try the cloth + solvent on an inconspicuous spot first to make sure the carpet is colourfast.
well ventilated area and no sparks of course

If you're looking for carpet or interior dyes, take a look here:
Jaguar parts for XJ6, XJ12, XJS, XJ40, S-type, X-type, XJ8, XJ
They seem to have it available for leather, vinyl, carpet, etc.

Thanks for the colour code Graham, I think Sable is the one. Strange that they are in such good condition but the colour is an issue, is this usual?
I will be having another look at the marks either this weekend or next Plums, in order to make them more aesthetically appealing, however I really deep cleaned them last August with a Power washer and an industrial carpet cleaner. The pics posted were the before ones prior to a valet and wash.
01Silverstone, thanks for the link to the Detailking site, I sent in a request and got a reply from Nick Vacco this morning asking for pics of the colour, they have been sent for appraisal and I will let you all know how it works out.
It makes me think just how lucky we all are to be part of this wonderful group where we can all help each other this way, I don't know of many site that are as helpful OR active as this one.
Thanks again,
Arty

It's unusual for the mats to become permanently heavily stained. I've seen filthy ones brought back from the dead with solvent or steam cleaning.
An option closer to you is Furniture Clinic at Burnopfield, Newcastle-upon-Tyne:
Standard Colour Chart
Despite the 'furniture' in the name, they are gaining a very good reputation for vehicle leather repair kits. Also in the in range is Fabricoat fabric dye:
Fabric Dye & Paint Specialists
The colour chart shows close options to Sable. As they do this colour in leather dye, they should be able to advise the closest one in the Fabricoat range and whether it is suitable for your carpets.

Graham, that's great info, never thought of the furniture clinic for that kind of thing. I will make enquiries but out of courtesy will have to wait and see what Nick Vacco has to say, then compare prices for both.
Again great suggestion and many thanks. Its all coming together!
