My 05 XK8 has been softly chirping on a warm restart. Sounds like the same noise when the shifter is moved without depressing the brake. It quits after its in reverse or drive. This started about 4 days ago. Noise appears to be coming from the shift console? Car has a new battery, no alert lights on the dash. Do I worry?

 

I have recently noticend that our 2001 XK8 makes a single chirp when starting. I think this is a relatively new development although I cannot say for certain. There are no warning lights or messages and the car seems to run fine.

Any insights would be appreciated.

This chirp is repeated 3 to 6 times unless I move the lever into a gear.

 

Might be a pulley on the accessory belt. When you engage the transmission lowering the RPM it often silences.
