Default correct oil level...again, please.

The search function gave me NOTHING. Really...NADA. I know we have discussed this several times, but I didn't find it in the stickies either.

I have a '97. My engine oil is sitting about halfway between the two small holes on the dipstick. I know there are variations in sticks, and that SOME of these XK8's have a different fill requirement than what the stick or book says.

So...what is mine supposed to read on the stick if it has the proper amount of oil in the crankcase? Is it the top hole, or is it above the top hole because the stick in incorrect?

I just went through that last week and I believe you can find the official data in the TSB's, but even that is confusing. Assuming you have the original dipstick, you can go 1 qt. over the top hole. When I had the pan off to clean out the bits of plastic from the tensioner slipper that disintegrated I put the dipstick in and saw that even 1 qt. over left a lot of clearance in the pan.

The thread you are looking for contained the two keywords: dipstick, silverstone.
