Heater Control Valve

Hi,

I've just been told by my garage that I need a new heater control valve for my UK 1998 XK8 coupe.

They said they'll price one up, but I might be able to find a compatible non-Jaguar part on the internet.

Any ideas if there are, for example, a Ford part that is compatible?

Just to be sure ................ are you talking about the valve that mounts on a bracket alongside the heater pump on the bulkhead under the throttle body in the engine bay ?
If so, I would get one from a scrap XK8 - plenty on the internet or from several Jaguar breakers in the UK.
I know, for example, that the heater pump from an XJ is identical, but, the mounting bracket is slightly different so although most of it is interchangeable, it's not a direct swap. The same may well be true of the valve.
Or ............ are you looking for part of the heating controls inside the car ?

I don't know to be honest. I'll ask for more info in an hour when I go to pick the car up.

As you can see, there's a control valve (4), a pump (7), and what is colloquially known as "the octopus hose" (1) for obvious reasons.
If your problem is a lack of heat in the car, the usual culprit is the pump. It runs pretty much all the time, and has fairly small brushes which eventually wear out. An exchange reconditioned pump is around £75.00 or so from various sources. The valve doesn't often give trouble - it's a simple solenoid and is pretty reliable.
IF it is the valve or the pump, it's worth getting the hoses replaced at the same time as they do age and deteriorate. It will add a bit to the bill (the hoses will be around £150.00) but it's not easy to get in there and so worth doing at the same time.
Also - quite possible that the hoses will be damaged trying to remove and replace the pump and/or valve.
Cheers,
David.

Thanks. They said it's the valve, so I'll try and find one from a breakers.
