[QUOTE=mJohn337;883315]Oh, I did forget something. The shop also told me that my oil pan is severely banged up underneath. That est was about $500, and I plan to take care of that as well.

If it doesn't leak, then why? If anyone is in a position to see it they're either working on the car or dead.
BTW, to stay on topic, upper tensioners, water pump, thermo housing, total front end re-rubber ($1500), four tires ($600), belt and idler, top pressure reducer, battery, trans oil and filter change ($350). Present need: coolant expansion tank (bad level sensor), rearview mirror. 83K miles, seven years ownership, $15,000 original purchase price. Smiles per mile.....priceless.

I guess really I can not comment to much on this thread...... I can give a whole list of customers who have spent a great deal, if it makes anyone feel better I did spend over $150k on my XJS over the 12 years I owned it, that did make me wince a bit I must admit....

I did convert this

To this

And yes that is the same car...... Below the silver car on the left was my XJS before I sold it, you can probably notice some of the XK cues

2004 XJ8 purchased new now w 111,000 miles. This is NOT an XK model but they're similar mechanically so I offer it as a rough comparison. We only recently purchased our XK8 so don't have a long enough track record in it yet.

I'm not including "disposable" routine maintenance like oil changes, tires, brakes, filters, etc., as these occur with every car and should not really count.

Pirelli tires are prone to splitting on the inner walls...right where you cannot see it.
There is a thread on this Forum with some nasty pictures of failure with only 5K on the clock.

Picked up Kitty a year and a half ago with 101,000 miles on her. 30,000 miles later the engine started coming apart (although it was still running smooth as silk despite all the clanking and banging - go figure).

After an engine swap, rental car and airline tickets the bank account was 9,000 plus dollars lighter!

However, other than this one "minor" betrayal, she's been really good. An O2 sensor here and there, some tires and an up coming coolant reservoir replacement (to get a new coolant level sensor) and that's about everything else.

Still love her.
