issue with turn signal stalk

Has anyone replaced the turn signal stalk and how easy is it? My issue reared its ugly head while on my way in to work before the buttcrack of dawn. I leave the headlights set to auto and have never had an issue before today. This morning, I put my right turn signal on and my headlights went out. Signal off - lights back on. Left turn signal on and headlights remained on. If I set the headlights to manual - headlights remain on when right signal is on. Not sure where to begin looking in the stalk but figured it might be easier to just replace the whole thing

Solder the broken wire on the circuit board.
Common problem fixed with a soldering iron.
I bought a 1998 XK8 with the same fault and repaired several customers cars with broken wires.

oh wow - easier fix than I anticipated - will take a look at it this weekend. Thanks @motorcarman

Plenty of pics of the multifunction switches in past posts about this issue with both X100 and X308.

To what circuit board arr you referring?

The multifunction lever switch is mounted to a plastic board with metal solder pegs.
The wires move a bit when the switch lever is actuated up/down, in/out. They become fatigued and the solder joint breaks.

Re-soldering the wire fixes the fault and restores the switch to function again.

Regarding the solder to wire repair , I think one has to remove air bag, the steering wheel and then you have access to the switch. On the XK8, appears 2 Posi Drive screws attach it to the column. Switch unplugs from a harness connector.

X100 and X308 switches are very similar.
Same procedure for both.

The left and right multifunction switches are screwed to the column and cancellation module (AKA cassette reel) behind the steering wheel.

My dash lights do not light up when the ignition switch is in the run position and the light switch is in the off position. My information is that they should. They do light up in all other light switch positions. Might this be due to one of these wires being broken?
2004 XK8
Canadian DRL activated (so the low beam is always on)
