Loose Headlight Powerwash Cover
 

I noticed, after this morning's drive, that the driver's side headlight powerwash cover was loose. I pushed it back into position, but the darn thing is not secured. How can I fix this? Is there some part I need to buy?

I believe some owners have epoxied those loose or missing covers back into proper position....

The mirror is held on a ball and socket and needs to rotate when power wash out
 

I just used 3M double sided tape on the ball part of the joint to fix it securely while allowing flex

That's not really a permanent solution, is it?


On mine, you can literally pull on the cover and the arm that holds it extends with it. The problem is not the cover itself, but the arm that extends it. I should've been clearer.

its spring loaded to hold in place. If its not tight replace the washer jet assembly. Or if youre one of those people that like to tinker and spend alot of time on something then take apart and see if you can streach the spring, replace it, or end up breaking it and need a new anyway. :)

That entire powerwash unit is real Rube Goldberg. I have some posts about this somewhere with photos but am attaching one here. Normally the thing that breaks is the plastic front piece that attaches to the plunger thing and that is what holds on the little glass trim piece. It would have been nice if that piece alone was available but of course it is not. So you have to buy the entire powerwash unit and then remove the headlight assembly to remove and replace (no joy).

Interesting... but I wonder if my problem is different. The glass trim piece does not fall out of the car, it just sort of dangles over the front bumper after some drives, but not all of them. I'll snap a picture of the problem later when I leave the library.

Could the powerwash unit have come off its clips?

I think that may be highly likely.

Power wash is attached to the bottom of the head lamp assembly
 

If you can jiggle the plastic bit, then the power wash assembly has come off the head lamp lense. The triangular flange sits in a recess in the bottom of the head lamp, and clips in, in 2 places. Clips might be broken?

Broken clips are a nightmare. Guess I won’t know for sure until I remove the headlamp assembly

Your little Mirror piece is not broken or it would not still be hooked up the Washer....Mine was broken and I had to buy the new Mirror piece....Yours's apparently is OK but the plunger part must be broke.

Yeah! That's exactly it. I guess I'll deal with it in summer vacation. In the meantime I'm going to try some putty to fix it in place.

I dont think its loose. Yep I know it stands out from the car and wobbles, sounds like me :) Basically what was mentioned above.

The flat bit on the washer slides into a V shaped bit on the underside of the headlamp. Its a real bar steward to get into place, even when you know what your doing.

That is interesting. So, how do you put it back in place when you are fitting the headlamp on the car?

What worked for me was getting the headlamp most of the way back in first, then raising it up just enough to slide the v back in. This was without the mirror piece in place, and with the bottom screw boss half broken off from a previous owner. I then pushed the mirror piece back into place. If I was doing it with a whole one, I'd do it mostly the same way, but with the inner wheel liner removed to access the bottom screw better.

John you could not have described it better. The headlamp 80% of the way in. Then slide the V back in. You will know its in place as you wont be able to pull it out again as the two interior clips should have locked into place. You can sometimes use the 'nose' of the washer to help push the V backwards. Its not easy!

As for the bottom screw I was lucky. Someone had tried before me and not bothered to put it back in. I left it out too!
