Need to install bluetooth cell phone in XK8

Hi whiteXKR and anyone else that can help, You said that you installed a bluetooth cell phone into the radio system and asked to start a new thread because it was off topic. So here it is. Help

Can anyone tell me how to wire it into the radio and which bluetooth to buy? Ron

Common question. I am doing this at this time with a Motorola T605 unit. See this link:

Testpoint, just to clarify, the PDF you attached is for a Jag XJ. The instructions are similar, but the connector pin numbers and wire colors are different on the XK8. The corresponding 2001 XK8 schematics are below. Also any references to the ACP network do not apply.

Also the Parrot CK3000, CK3100, and CK3200 are other choices.

Note the above are for phone only.

If you want to integrate an MP3 player with the phone, as some of the newer devices like the Motorola T605 do, yes, you need to tap into the AI-AUX connections for full stereo as Testpoint's link shows. If you go this route, in my opinion, a better way is to use the PIE AI-AUX (http://www.myradiostore.com/auxadapt...lp-ai-aux.html ) and avoid using relays.

Thanks, I had not found that additional piece of information.

Glenn Barickman 01-18-2011 07:29 AM

WhiteXKR, are you using the PIE AI-AUX? I thought I had read somewhere that it would no work with Jaguar? I had found this on line and thought it would be the way to go.

WhiteXKR 01-18-2011 07:58 AM

Yes I am, and it works fine. With the premium audio it plugs between the nav unit and the power amp, and it overrides the radio when there is an aux signal. I have a 2001, and Jaxkr on this forum has also used it on a 2000.

With the standard audio, I think it plugs between the CD changer and the head unit, and overrides the CD changer, but since I have the premium audio I have not tested this myself.

I am guessing some people who have had problems either were plugging it in different positions, or were not injecting a high enough signal level to trigger the unit. I recommend using it with a PAC LD-10 preamp to fine tune the audio trigger levels, since it does take a fairly robust line level signal to trigger.

Bluetooth summary

ok. I've been reading all of these posts about converting my factory installed phone (paperweight) in my 2004 XK8 to a bluetooth module. I do not want to change the look or cut wires, and I want the bluetooth module out of site, and right now, I only care about the phone. Can someone tell me if I have this right. I can use the parrot or motorola T505/605 with a nexxis adapter cable. I disconnect the existing phone cradle in the armrest and remove. I connect the adapter cable to the factory plug in the armrest and put the unit in the armrest. Can I then use the steering wheel controls, factory microphone and factory speakers for hands-free operation? I understand that the number pad on the factory radio will not work, but all other controls will. Is this right?

It is actually a 'Nexxia' cable you are referring to. http://www.nexxia.co.uk/products.asp...t=Quick+Search

It looks like this will eliminate cutting the factory wiring, and give you Bluetooth phone audio through factory speakers, with factory mute, and factory microphone. It will not support the MP3 audio features of the T605 (except maybe in mono, I am not certain). I also am not certain about support for the steering controls.

Note that the T505 is a wireless FM modulator solution, so it does not need a wired adapter cable at all.

<See update to this info in post #19! >

WhiteXKR 01-29-2011 08:53 PM

After a more careful reading of the Nexxia and Parrot and T605 spec sheets, I see these units support ISO communications. That tells me they MIGHT be compatible with the steering wheel controls.

Jaggrnxk8 01-29-2011 08:59 PM

Thanks WhiteXKR. MP3 isn't important to me, but steering column controls are. Since I want to put the BT unit in the armrest, I won't have access to their buttons to activate new calls or answer incoming calls (unless phone button on factory radio does that).

WhiteXKR 01-29-2011 09:11 PM

I have seen people put some of the smaller BT units in the ashtray at the front of the armrest. Check the dimensions of the unit you buy. Maybe that can be a backup strategy if the steering controls do not work.

Install Motorola T605

I just bought the Motorola T605. I would like to install it by disconnecting the old phone in the console and plug in the T605. The most important issue is the working steering wheel controls. Have you installed your bluetooth using the steering wheel controls? Where are the wires on the Jaguar that I am connecting to. LOST Ron Gerst rlgerst@msn.com

Jaggrnxk8 02-01-2011 08:24 PM

Haven't figured out the steering controls yet. Nexxia says their harness won't interface with steering wheel and they don't know of one out there for my vehicle. I will look through the electrical specs to see if I can figure it out. The wires you're looking for are under the tray holding the factory phone in the center armrest/glovebox. See attached post:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1154. I'll let you know what I figure out unless I find someone on the forum who alreaady has!

Finally got around to taking the console apart to find the Jaguar wiring. What I found is that there is not much available length to splice to. It sure would be nice to be able to use the connector instead of cutting and splicing wires. The AMP connector has been identified for the 10 pin XJ8 (AMP part number 174465) but I have not seen a number for the 14 pin XK8.

Anyone know a part number and source for this thing?

Hi Testpoint-
Even if you had the part number, you would need an expensive tool to wire the pins. Why don't you just use the Nexxia XK8 cable mentioned above?

It appears on close examination that Nexxia cable has 20 pins does NOT match your car Testpoint:

On browsing their website though I came accross this Hyundai cable (perish the thought :icon_eek: ) that looks like a perfect match:

Hi, I have a 2001 Jaguar XK8 Convertible. I don't mind splicing wires, but am I connecting wires in the dash or in the console. Apparently, Test Point had an old post on issue.
Ron
