UK vehicle manufacturers of 2 door vehicles chose to fit (useless) rear seats because it is a lot easier and considerably cheaper to comply with Construction & Use Regulations for seats than it is for luggage carrying space in the passenger compartment. Jaguar never had the X100 or X150 certified for rear seat delete or an 'extended boot' option. Some owners have removed the rear seats but I've never seen anyone take a cutting torch to the rear firewall and reposition the fuel tank.
This is the most extreme approach to X100 rear seat space and luggage capacity I've come across.
Almost certainly nonsense - you'd have to relocate the entire fuel tank to extend the trunk. Probably he saw one with a rear seat delete with a luggage shelf instead, as you got on a lot of early XJSes.
