Hi All I'm not much of a mechanic and need a steering rack replaced as well as rear shocks on a 1998 XK.

Could anyone please give me a rough price on what this might cost please and recommend an independent repair shop somewhere between London and Bristol where I live. Don't mind a bit of travel.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated 🙏🏼

Mav, regarding rear shocks, odds are you're going to get raped. I once brought my 98 (i don't have CATS adjustable shocks, I assume you don't either) to my reputable mechanic for an annoying noise from rear at low speeds. He diagnosed it as worn rear shocks lower connection. He quoted me $800.

Now I'm sure he didn't know of out member, Bob Motorcarman's trick to intentionally bend a plate underneath towards center of car, allowing ez removal of shock & spring. Odds are neither does your mechanic.

As a reference I purchased the rear shocks last summer for $110 each. Fronts cost same.

I don't know about the steering rack price. Frankly I don't remember any discussions of it here before. Will leave that to others to advise.
