Really classic wheels
 

I'm not sure if these are photoshopped or not because they look a little too big for the car, but this is from a well-known wire wheel manufacturer's web page. This is something I'd like to do for my car if the size was proportionally correct.

They look a good size, maybe 18 inch. I think the white line on the tyres give the illusion of a bigger wheel.

That's probably it. With my normal 17" they would probably look pretty good.

I'm not a fan of wire wheels on such a modern car. You also need to make sure the spokes can handle the engine torque.

Now that's a real British car problem. Upgrade the power until a wheel collapses and back off a little bit.

Have to agree about about wire wheels on so modern a car. Maybe it is just that I come from a different era, where wire wheels are most often associated with something other than classic British motoring.

I think it looks pretty good on this silver car.

I do not like them on 70-87 +/- XJ6's ..but again, w/silver ..not too bad

I'm of the opinion that the 96-06 xk8 is just a far better looking E type and the wire wheels enhance that. I think they look excellent. If I could afford them.......:icon_naughty:

I've been wrestling with this thread. Have long considered wire wheels never mind white walls old fashioned looking, but then my charm with my new old baby Jag is its "timeless" look, and yeah, a freshening of the E-type is not a bad way to see the style of the 97-06 XK. Looking at these images, wire and white wall pulls the "E" buried in the letters XKR out into the open. I do find it appealing. Not sure why. But... it works. Not sure of any other car the last 20 years for which I could say that.

Well, here's our "foundation". I, too, think the XK8 is a graceful refinement of the XKE.

These wire wheels will not collapse.
Take a Ferrari Daytona for example, wire wheels and about the same power from the engine.

I think they'd be strong enough, but they are pricey. The ones on the silver coupe are Dayton direct bolt-ons at about $560-600 each. They also make a "Triple-Cross Well Lace" that run about $690+ each. The Truespoke versions run about $2300-2400 a set. Dunno about others.
