Default reverse proximity sensor problem

When I bought my XK8 I knew the reverse prox sensing had a problem. I get the steady tone when first selecting R and the system does not work. When I had the prepurchase inspection done, the Jag tech said he saw some electrical tape wrapped around the wiring to one of the sensors, so it is probably buggered up.
I was also told my check engine light is on because the prox system is part of the drivetrain circuitry sensing and it shows a fault (suppposedly no other codes are posting) - does this sound right?
I have not crawled up under the bumper to see if it's an easy wiring fix yet.
Thanks in advance for input.

Check Engine Light, Reverse Parking Aid, absolutely no connection; they were pounding sand. Tape on a parking sensor, bad news. Those connectors have stiff seals that have to be compressed to keep the elements out. If the latches on the connectors are broken, the terminals can't make proper contact.

I suspect they didn't have a scantool that would read corporate fault codes. There is probably an engine code they couldn't read that is setting the Check Engine light on.

Good luck!

Have to agree, the parking sensors have nothing to do with a check engine light, you can buy a new loom just for the sensors, I have a secondhand one in the shop I will see if there is a part number on it and post it up tomorrow.

Steve- thanks for your input. I suspected their reader was not up to snuff, but thought it worth a shot with my post. I'll go back to a garage that I know has a good code reader and check with them next time I'm over there.

I have the loom, must admit the label is hard to read, looks like LJ64225AC?
