Side Light Access

It looks like i have 2 side marker lights not working.. Front drivers side and rear passenger. I have looked at the a little to access them to change but i really can see the best way. Searched in here but did not find anything. Can someone guide me the access to both light areas for replacement?

Thanks in advance!

Front are accessed by moving the repeater lens forward, then it pops out with a little assistance. Be careful not to break the tab.

Rear must be accessed from underneath, I changed out a burned out bulb by reaching under, twisting counter-clockwise, and removing the bulb harness from the lens.

Both are easy to DIY.

This is kind of strange I have the exact lights out. I changed the rear the other night and it didn't light. I haven't had time to test the circuit. You can access them by pushing the tabs in on each side of the side light from the back side and push it out and turn the coupling and harness will come out of the opening. The front can also be removed by removing the access panel in the wheel well. I haven't tried to take it out from the outside.

can we take out the jag logos on the side and replace them with lights? i'd like to try and make that happen...i think the UK cars have lights where we have those stupid looking side jag emblems...i'd rather have lights there...

Yes you can, I just did that last month. There's a thread here with details. To summarize it, you can order either the amber lenses or the clear lenses with amber bulbs from Mina Gallery or find them on ebay. I got the clear ones with amber bulbs from a UK dealer on ebay for about $30 for the pair and they arrived here (Houston) in about a week.
To remove the leaper badges just pry them off with a plastic putty knife or old credit card. They're just held on with double sticky tape. Clean up the tape residue with a product that won't mar the paint like GooGone.
There are badges attached to the bulb sockets. Pull the clip and pull off the badges. Put the bulb in the socket, attach the socket to your new lens and snap the lens in the opening.
However, do test them before you snap them in as earlier years, such as my '98, have voltage present but not enough current. The fix for that was to clip the wires a few inches from the socket and connect them to a pair of wires that I ran to the front turn signals - about a 15 minute job per side.

I replaced mine with clear lenses also. Worked fine on the driver side, but had to order a wiring harness for the passenger side.

The wiring harness would have to come from Jaguar. It is a $100+ item. In hind-site, I probably would have just wired it up to the front turn signal wiring as someone else has done.

Wiring up the repeaters to the front turn signals is really very simple and has a cost of $0 provided you have a few feet of wire lying around - lamp cord or speaker wire is fine. I ran the wires over the wheel wells and drilled a small hole in each headlight cluster to pull the wires through and connect to the turn signal socket wires. A dab of silicone sealant on the holes sealed them up again. Even with the wiring harness I'm not sure they'd work. Mine (a '98) has the hrness but I think the control unit needs to be programmed to make them work.

it is funny...the right side of my car, had the harness, it was actually plugged in to the jaguar emblem i pulled out to put the light in...but unfortunately on the left side of the car there was no harness at all...that is so weird one side of my car had the harness and when i hooked it to the light it worked fine, but the other side of my car did not have the harness...why would one side of my car have a harness and the other side not have a harness?

I've heard that of others as well. Mine (a 98) had both connectors with correct voltage but not enough current to even run LEDs. It's a fairly easy matter to run a pair of wires to the left front turn signal. Just route the wires over the plastic wheel well shield and up to the headlamp cluster. You can reach in from the access panel in the shield. Once the wire is near the cluster you can open the clear cover on it to splice tot he turn signal leads. I drilled a small hole in the back of the cluster to route the wire and used a dab of silicone to seal it up when I was done. The whole job takes less than 20 minutes.
