A couple of observations after watch the ENTIRE video:
1) As many of us have had to deal with, the shock mounts are almost a universal repair item and he did not mention what to look for ( are they centered, etc)
2) If I had watched this BEFORE I purchased my ‘02 XKR 4 years I am not sure I would have find through with the purchase. Good lord, he scared the hell out of me and I’m very comfortable working on my own cars.

I noticed the omission re: the upper shock mounts too. He also did a poor job of describing the visual differences between the orange plastic-bodied tensioners vs the aluminum bodied with white plastic sliders (which also turn orange after a while in the oil). Still a pretty good video tho.

I’m glad I did my own research before settling on the 4.0 L XKR vs watching the u tube “the sky is falling” horror stories.

the known faults of the 4.0 XKR’s are not that many. And all can be corrected without breaking the bank IF caught before there is a catastrophic parts failure.

A search for a comparative reliable used car is not that complicated: if a car has had the typical known faults fixed already , either before or after a failure, then I was interested in looking at the car.

When comparing known faults of 20+ year old cars, our X-100’s are in the top tier of quality cars that I researched.

Yes, it may be hard to believe, but an objective examination of used 20 year old cars in the same class as the X-100,s will show that, without exception, every car under consideration has one or more potential major failings in the drivetrain or suspension systems.

In my view, our cars are as reliable, if not much more reliable, than comparable European cars of the late 1990’s - early 2000’s.

I don’t put much stock in the u-tube videos that suggest otherwise.

PS: There is one caveat the applies equally to all 20+ year old cars; meaning, a “don’t buy this car” warning. Which is the existence of rust damage.

Thankfully this is not a complicated problem to uncover before a potential purchase. Most items can be repaired without getting upside down on a car. But not extensive rust damage.

UK presenter, so I'm surprised he missed out the drop legs, front suspension tower behind the crossbeam, transmission tunnel, etc. rot spots. UK winters are not kind to UK cars.

Still - not a bad primer, though.
