Wheels and Tires Setup
 

Hi all:
Hopefully, i'm posting in the correct area. I am attempting to get new wheels and tires on my 1997 Jaguar XK8. the original set up is 17" wheels. Can i search for a new set up by searching for 2006 Jaguar XKR. Will these be compatible or will they not fit for any reason? Past that, any ideas for tire sizes?
i would appreciate some advice and knowledge on this. thank you all.

There has been discussion here about options to replace the OE 17 " wheels and members here with the same model will be able to help.

As I recall from reading here one only risks incompatibility if they are fitting wheels to an XK8/R that has Bembo brakes.

From what I recall ( so it needs verification) all factory issued wheel tire combos are otherwise interchangeable within reason.

Smarter folks will set us straight soon enough.

Any Factory X100 or X308 wheel will fit on a '97 XK8. You can run into problems with the bigger brakes on later models fitting earlier wheels

The "Five Spoke" wheels (22) are known as "Revolvers", but this isn't politically correct.

2006 wheel will not fit. Different stud pattern and centre bore diameter.

If you can't find an OEM style you like, Coventry makes some great looking wheels for our cars. Many members have gone with the Coventry Whitley's (see my Signature pic) and a few have gone with the 5spoke Hornets

From what I can discern the "US" 2006 MY is same as the older years.

this is getting pretty confusing. there are as many opinions form here and other sites that clearly say that most wheels are compatible and then some that say that bolt patterns, etc, are not interchangeable. is there a sure fire way to know before ordering wheels and tires? the vendors certainly don't appear to know either and in most cases, they'll ship what you ask for and then it's on you. i love the Perseus wheel but it seems like it only comes in 20". i have seen the Coventry wheels and they are a serious consideration for a fall back position, but it all goes for naught when you ask for 18" or 19".
can anyone lift the fog?

Check out the Wheel and Fitment guide in the DIY sticky at the top of the XK8/R forum. But the key factor is bolt pattern and offset: Pattern: 5 bolt, 120.65 mm PCD (4.75"), 73 mm counterbore; Offset: +20 mm. As long as the wheels are hubcentric and meet this criteria - they will work. I went from the factory 17" lamina rims to the 18" non-staggered Coventry Whitley's. Most, if not all, of the factory 18/19/20" rims are staggered fitment

One thing that may be confusing you is the "2006" that gets really fuzzy when you look at worldwide model releases. A US 2007 could be considered a 2006 in other countries.

An easy way to escape that confusion is to use 2005 when sourcing for your US 2006 car since they were all built before 2006 anyway.

A US 2006 Model Year has hubs that are 5x120.65 bolt pattern with 73.8 center bore.

Coventry Whitley wheels are similar to Perseus and you can get the Whitley in 18,19 or 20 inch to fit your 5x120 73.8 hubs.

to be specific, I own a 97 jag xk8 Conv. When i searched for that year, the options were severely limited so i switched to a 2006 (since some opinions were that they would fit). the options opened up.
I have a 17" wheel size car and i want to go to 18". Maybe even 19" if the change is not too drastic.

As long as the rims are 5x120.65 bolt pattern with 73.8 center bore then 18/19/20 inch will work. While I do not have experience with 19/20inch rims, other members who have them have said they provide a harsher ride. The only other thing to consider is whether you want a staggered set up or not

Hi I have just upgraded from a 17” Factory standard Lamina wheel to an 18” Factory option Impeller wheel which are wider at the back and mount a wider tyre. No real difference to the ride quality.
