Default Ram-air

OK... since I'm a sculptor/designer dude, I tend to start thinking along the lines of what can I shape out of foam and fiberglass. I'm considering making a ram air snorkel that will replace the XKR's heat grill that is above/near the filter box. I believe that I can shape it in a fashion that looks decent enough, creating a lower box that leads the 'rammed air' into the MAF sensor. I believe that if the ram-air inlet protrudes forward from the heat vent location it will be able to intake pressurized cool air at speed. If the inlet is too low, the result could be negative. Thoughts?

There's also the possibility that the pressure in the wheel arch goes up because the tyre actually acts as a pump.

Late in the thread I know.

Here are the details and pictures from the Jaguar manual:

Nice pictures but what manual are you speaking of? I would like one.

It is the technical update manual, describing the updates/changes to the 2003 4.2 versions. Very interesting read, get a copy here: http://matt.zenfolio.com/2003-xk-ser...ning-guide.pdf

Default Excellent photo!

That is exactly what I was hoping to see. =)

If you remove the black plastic plate from behind the headlight, it opens up a pathway to fresh air. You can even run a pipe/hose down there to isolate the possibility of some engine-heated air from getting into the filter box. Bring on the fresh, cool air!

I just replaced my snorkel tube with a 4" round flex pipe this weekend. The flex pipe starts inside the fender and sweeps into the back into the existing air box. I cut open the airbox below the original snorkel oblong opening to accept the 4" round.

No change in sound ( I still only hear the blower). I will post pictures tonight

I removed the filter in my '05 XKR today and saw the solenoid. I also noticed that the straight wire end of the spring that keeps the flap closed (default position) had slipped off, allowing the flap to flop around. It was easy to place the spring in its proper configuration, though, so that the solenoid could work as intended. At the same time, I cleaned the MAF Sensor. The combination of the two made a noticeable difference in how engine performs.
