Importing a US car to France
#41
Hello,
I did import my car from US last Year (feb 2014), and although i worried about it, it's been rather easy to fulfill customs and incoming registration.
The key point has been to get the CoC from Jag FRANCE (easy, just on a mail request, but for 180 €...)
After filling the right form, it's just a short inspection (on appointment) by the DREAL of your sector and you have everything to go to the "Prefecture" or "Sous-préfecture" to get your immatriculation certificate.
As said above, coming from US, there will be only 2 things to do : change the red lights on the side of the front wings to orange (available on Ebay) and put a VIN plate number in French (About 30€, to order on the net). That's all.
For information, the fee for the certificate is 50% cheaper if your car has more than 10 years.
As an example for my XKR MY2000, I paid about 600 €.
At last, and this changing quickly, you may have to pay environmental taxes if your car is younger than 2004. I cannot give idea of price because this is changing quickly due to political issues.
If I can help anybody, I will be glad
