Default Voice activation workarounds?

Ok I'm only on day one of ownership and I know that I'm going to have to figure out how to cope without voice activation functionality on my F-Type. Especially as it relates to the bluetooth phone functionality.

How are others coping with this lack of functionality? Is Siri the only option (for Apple users) or is there something aftermarket that could solve this problem?

do you have in-control apps? I think there might be a way to do voice through it, but can't confirm.

Doesn't look like the "JustDrive" app is active with InControl yet. Seems like others have posted on other forums that JustDrive was delayed. I'm going to contact Jag to find out more info.

It's not a big deal to me. What specifically are you trying to do?

I'm just used to being able to use some kind of voice activation to make a call -- so, I would just push a button and say "Call X" -- the system would respond by confirming it understood the name correctly and then dial the number. Allows you to keep your eyes on the road at all times.

I have had voice command on my previous 3 cars, and I never found it any good to use, so I can't say I am missing it on the F-type.

Had it in a dozen or so vehicles since it first appeared in my wife's '02 745. I'd estimate that the systems I've used correctly execute what I'm trying to accomplish less than 50% of the time, so it ends up being more distracting than punching a button or turning a dial.

Aside from the F-Type, my other vehicles offer this feature and I never use it. Most of the controls I need are easily within reach and can be done without voice control.

Of course I don't really make calls from the car either. I'll take a call when I need to, but I generally prefer to avoid the distraction. I do have a short cut button on my BMW that is set to call my wife, but I think I've used it once in the last 3 years.

Yes, the JustDrive app (if ever released) is supposed to address this. But like the others said, I rarely used voice controls on my other cars (Audis with latest generation MMI) other than to cancel and start route guidance and never for calling since they tended to get the names wrong at least 50% of the time.

On the F Type, if you hit the telephone button on the steering wheel it brings up your recent call list. Hit the button again to call the last number dialed. It's not perfect, but still works ok.

JustDrive, if it works as well as the press releases boast about it, would solve everything... but I'm not holding my breadth since Cloudcar/JustDrive states that the app will be ready Summer 2015--which doesn't seem like it's happening.

I forget that we even have it in our Maser. In my Merc it was hit and miss, needed German accent! In our Q7 it worked great for basics and nav!

Hang up and drive. Someone had to say it. I feel better now.

I would have agreed with you except for my 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. It has voice control and it understands what I am saying about 95% of the time.

I already miss this as well. It's useful for not only calls, but for changing radio stations. Even with it saved as favorites I am fumbling through the source menu and then clicking the preset. Lame on a 110K car.

Good to hear! I sent the JustDrive folks an email a couple of weeks ago asking about it but never got a response.

Voice commands worked great in my Cadillac CTS, but in my Audi Q5, it can be hit or miss.

I just took a look and JustDrive's website no longer states "Coming Summer 2015." Seems like vaporware so far... Has anyone else heard from these guys? I wonder what JLR has to say about this.

I never thought to look for this on the F-Type. As others have said I have had the voice control on my past 5 cars and never used it. My wife RX330 has it as well as my Dodge Ram 1500 and we both never use it.

Now my "OK Google" on my phone I use allllllllll the time. I rarely write emails / texts on my phone anymore, I hit the mic and talk.
