Default Replacing transmission?

Hey folks, quick question here. Is possible to pull out the tranny on a 2001 Jaguar S Type, 4.0 v8 without removing the engine? That will be a bummer if the engine has to be pulled. Thanks everyone!

It can be replaced without engine removal, however exhaust system needs to be unbolted headers back, had mine rebuilt and exhaust system was removed, studs will most likely snap so you'll need to drill them. Mine is also a 4.0

The driveshaft on the early models (mine was a 2002) can be a bear. The grease hardens rock solid in the slip yoke preventing the easy collapsing of the shaft. I ended up having to beat on it pretty hard and use crowbars to pry on it and get it to budge enough to shorten and remove. After getting it out and the front and rear shafts split I had to chisel out the old grease cemented in the splines with a hammer and screwdriver.

Also, Jaguar says for balancing purposes the driveshaft needs to go back in exactly the same orientation on the transmission and differential yokes and the same indexing on the slip yoke between the front and rear driveshafts.

As posted above keep track of the nuts and washers and the order and position they were installed at. Jaguar usually has some colored marks on the bolts and washers. This is for drive shaft balance.

Don't create another problem with your repair!

Parts cleaning solvent will remove the Jaguar markings - found that out on mine. Best to scribe or put small punch marks.

Just had mine done at the shop, they told me the driveshaft was a bear, but they did the whole thing with the car on a lift. They said there's no reason to have to pull the motor. Hope this helps
