Default About to install replacement stereo, what about the code?

I bought an X-type in November of last year, and after buying it, I realized the CD player was broken. And also there was a bubble on the screen of the climate control (i knew about that one). So in the end I found a used Climate control and stereo out of a wrecked X-Type and bought it dirt cheap. So I am about to pull the entire center unit out of my X-type, and install the new one that should be fully functional. However I have heard people on this forum talking about PIN numbers or codes on these stereos, and I don't think I have one.

Do i need to have the code before I do this install? And also, if I do need it, and don't have it. How can I get it?

Any information would be helpful.

Great! I have the vin number of the car it was pulled from on the receipt from the place I bought it from. I will call a Jag dealer and see if they will give me the code. Thanks for the advice!
