A very frustrated o2 issue
I'm new to the forum and I've searched through threads pertaining to the issue at hand prior to posting this.
I recently received a 2003 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sport from my aunt as a gift with some mechanical issues. First and foremost, I solved the a gearbox failure issue with simply unplugging the battery and since then it has never had the issue.
Second, it threw a P1647 code for the upstream bank 2 sensor which was replaced with a Denso OE upstream sensor. However, I've driven it for an excess of 250 miles and have not yet seen the code disappear. Also, my average MPG stays at 22 (I only drive highway). The code is followed by a P1000 code which I believe states monitors have not been set. I've seen many people say their o2 code disappeared immediately after replacing the sensor. Is there anyway someone can provide some guidance to reconcile this issue?

The p1000 code means that your car needs complete a "drive cycle" after the battery was unplugged, so that the ECU can "re-learn" so to speak. If your EML hasn't gone out since the sensor change, have you tried clearing the codes yourself with an ODB II scanner? I had to do that after my sensor was changed.If you've done that and the light comes back on, then the problem is still there. I've known mechanics who have mixed up bank 1 & 2, could be the new sensor was fitted in the wrong position. To be clear, P1647 relates to the upstream sensor nearest the front of the engine, you can get to it by removing the battery box, it has a grey plug. The other upstream sensor is located nearest the bulkhead and is difficult to replace without removing the inlet manifold. Hope this helps!

I've just had to replace the "P1647" sensor today, same as when I replaced the "P1646" sensor last year - the EML would not go out until I cleared the code with my scanner. My X is a 2001, I have no idea if it's different with later models. If you clear the code & the problem isn't fixed, the EML will come back on next time you start the engine. I believe it's necessary to complete the "P1000" drive cycle so that the purge valve will operate correctly after the ECU has been reset.
