First picture of the new XE (the X760)

I think they will offer a V6, but the intention is for the main production numbers to be the new turbo-charged 4s. I believe the consumption of the petrols is so good there will be no point in having a diesel, but we shall have to wait until the car is available for test. The very small capacity VW turbo engines show the way, I think.

Meh.....I have been driving the new 328i that has BMWs turbo four. It's zippy, but it sure doesn't sound or feel like anything special. It's a turbo four. I love the V8 in the Jags and the transverse 6 has really grown on me. Hopefully, the XE will come in R form and AWD. But that's going to put it out my price range...just like the XF-R .....I need to figure out how to make more jelly

Its not the amount of power that I'm worried about - my X300 probably puts out less than 200bhp and I feel it's quick enough - smaller saloon car should be really quick with 270. Its just the idea of 4 cylinder 2 litre turbo in a Jag - I feel those kind've engines belong in the 'hot hatch' market. Good to see they will offer it with the 3 litre aswell

I think the best sounding 4-cylinder engine I've had was my '86 944. That one wasn't turbo'd, but it sounded awesome!

Budget option huh?.....well, I wonder if the new XE "budget option" will be any better. Btw....the turbo4 in the Beemer "sounds". Pretty decent when you step on it....it just doesn't deliver any feel. Anyways, the build quality is ...we'll, it a BMW 3 series....you get what you get...and it lives up to the 3 series standard, somehow it's missing the fun factor that the old BMWs used to have....one thing is for sure McD...it will be up for sale in a year or two cause that engine isn't going to last and I don't think the XE TURBO4 will be any better. Guess I will have to compromise and give up AWD..but if I do that, I might as well do it now and settle for the butt ugly, honda lookalike XF

With the price of fuel so low in the US, I expect XEs for lucky Americans will have the larger engines with more cylinders. Main thing to bear in mind is Jaguar need much, much, bigger sales in order to succeed as a separate marque within the Jaguar Land Rover company, and this can only come from cheaper cars with fewer cylinders that cost less to make, so can sell for less and still be profitable. European sales and "rest of the world" will take a lot of these cars. The BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C Class are the volume sellers that the XE is up against.
BTW, here in the UK we now "only" pay Ł1.29 a litre, (or Ł5.86 a UK gallon), down from nearly Ł1.40 a litre 18 months ago.

It was on Jaguar's UK website that they say the F-Type's V6 will be offered so you will at least have that. Of course there are rumors of the 5.0L in some form will make it but we'll have to wait and see on that one. If I really like it I'll probably go for it. I like my XF but ideally I'd rather have a smaller car.

So true. I'm in a '14 BMW 328i and it also feels like it has too much girth to make it a really *fun* car to drive. It just doesn't have the same feel that the older BMWs had. When I drove the XF I also felt it was too long. It's like Jaguar tried to make the XF too much like the XJ. The XJ is awesome in its role because it plays the part extremely well. The XF is just stuck in limbo in my opinion. Luckily, my lease will be up just in time for the arrival of the XE here in the states. Now that they are definitely putting a V6 in it I am more excited than before. My wife's X type is a BLAST to drive, even though it is underpowered, the fun factor is totally there. I hope that holds true for the coming XE.

I think Jag may have missed a trick with the styling. Bland , uninteresting front end. Looks like everything else out there . Lots of choice in UK if you want that generic , CAD designed shape. Vauxhall Insignia, Mazda 6, Kia Optima etc. However the Jag engineering, build quality & engines will be superb....

At first, the new Jaguar front end looked cool on the XF, then XJ.... now they're slapping it on everything and it gets a bit tiresome, imho. What's the point of driving a high-end XJ when your car looks like the baby entry-level model?
It seems not just Jaguar, but everyone else is doing it.
