Here we go again
I walked away from the 2000 XJ-8 45K miles , $5,500.00, mint condition due to all known/potential real problems that can be found on this forum and on the internet.
I just found a mint 1997 XJ-6 Carnival red with 29K miles (yes 29 K miles) brand new set of Z rated tires. The owner asking for $9,000.00 which is real high. Is $6,000.00? Fair price?
I am currently drive a 1997 XJ6 with 93,000 miles. I bought it in 2004 with 35,000 mile for $15,000.00.
1997 or 2004 later. I will skip 1998 to 2003.

I looked at a slew of $3K X300's when shopping for mine in 2010. Concluded most every one would require an additional $3k-$3.5k to get it to the condition I wanted. Found the black VDP with 63K mi on it. Only flaws were an ABS light and slight wear on the driver's squab side bolster, which eventually wore into a hole some 3 yrs later. I bought it for $6.5K and was very happy with the deal.
To me, $6k for a primo-condition X300 with 29K on the clock sounds like an excellent deal. However, the true market value is probably somewhat less than that. Having already logged nearly 60K mi in an X300, you are well-placed to determine if another one is worth $6K to you. If mine ever wears out (157k now and everything's fine) I'd be pleased to find a mint, low-mileage X300 for $6k, but that's just me...
