Technically, a panther is a jaguar... It is just a melanistic colour variant of a jaguar in the Americas It is actually a very rare melanistic condition for jaguars (more common on leopards).

It's really cool seeing a melanistic spotted cat up close; the car equivalent is like ghost flames and such. Yes they're black, but you can still kind of see their spots up close.

Okay, my leaper is finished and looks exactly how I imagined it would And the word I was trying to "make" was: WEAR. Every Jag wears in... And this is a artificial wear on a black metallic leaper
Just got to drill the holes in the bonnet to fit it Oh, and the rest of the chrome will be treated the same way

People don't know that these cars come with V8s. They think V6s are the biggest engines at most.

If you are going for a matte black finish, may I suggest that you either go for some sort wrap or maybe plasti dip.
A friend of mine has a factory matte black finish on his motorcycle, it does look really cool ( like something batman would ride ) but it drives him nearly insane trying to keep it clean!
Even a simple thing like bird poop, if not removed correctly, can severely marr the finish.
You cannot use ordinary shampoos or cleaners, and obviously you dare not go anywhere near it with polish.

'cept it's not been peppered.
Should you behold a panther crouch,
Be prepared to say "Ouch".
Better yet, if called by a panther,
Don't anther."

I'll be painting with paint... But not normal car paint. Instead an acrylic paint which should also stop the rot chances...

Adjusted the throttle cable (WOW there was some slack there), and replaced the weatherstripping on the corner panels under the hood while I was there. Next weekend, I'll probably Simple Green the whole engine and try to get some clean under there! I did wash the car today - drove it to dinner and came out to rain. Always how it works, but..eh.

A little TLC
Picked up the kitty first thing this morning, from our local indie Jag shop. I had the following done while I was traveling for business last week:
1) Idler pulley on serpentine tensioner - replaced
2) Serpentine belt - replaced
3) Rear shock mount, and spring seat bushings - replaced.
Back to a cat-like, stealthy quiet ride.
Next maintenance to be done is a standard oil change and lube.
P.S.: Almost forgot - two weeks ago, I replaced the auto-dimming mirror with a replacement I found on Amazon. Had to, because the liquid electrochromic fluid in the mirror went off, and it developed the bubble. There is a great thread in these forums that covers this topic!
Cheers.

Finished replacing my AC compressor and dryer on 2002 XJR.
Once I had the belts off I found my supercharger idler bearing was feeling rough so I replaced it. Also broke one of the small coolant lines as it was brittle, so had to replace that.
Hopefully pull a vacuum and charge AC tomorrow.
