Hi Rich, if you are sure that yours isn't just misaligned and you really need another one, then try googling the part number, this should render many online sellers, or, if all else fails, you may have to try to find used one.

I doubt there isn't one available new though. There are many other chains of auto parts stores, and usually if your local store doesn't have it in stock, they can order one from another of their stores and have it for you to pick up within days.

Regards,

I had the same problem when looking for one. Most places don't carry it. RockAuto has it for a good price, but not in stock. I ended getting it on Ebay for way too much money. I paid about $143.

I got a used switch off of an XJ8 for $5 from a junk yard. The connector and wire length was different. So I used the connector and wire from the original xk8 switch. (unsoldered from the original and soldered to the replacement one) Also had to use the original bracket.

I just looked at Rock Auto and I found one listed for 2000MY XK8. (in stock)

You can buy a switch for XJ8 and remove the switch/circuit board and unsolder/solder the longer XK wires to the board. It will save about $20 if you can use a soldering iron.

Just mark the wires or do them one-at-a-time.

I keep a sedan switch in stock so it will fit the XK if I swap the wires.

I think the one listed at Rock Auto is the same one I tried to buy. It says in stock, but when you put it in you cart, It comes up as not available.

Default Thank you so much!

Thank you for your wonderful pictorial on brake switch replacement in an XK8. Having this information made the job so much easier. It solved my issue of park interlock malfunction in my XK8. I did find it necessary to fully depress the brake pedal to get the new switch in. But, once pressed fully, it went right into place...problem solved. Again, thank you. Your post was my reason for becoming a forum member.

Default a way to get switch in place

I bought a new switch, removed the electrical parts, then used my mig welder to tack mig wire on to the end of both studs, remounted the electrical parts. I threaded a separate wire in from the top, linked them together, and had my wife pull the switch up while I guided from below. Worked like a charm! OK ... it did still take 1/2 hour.

Your write up was great.

I know this a rather old thread but... I changed out my brake light switch this morning with a good helper in about 45 minutes. Thank all of you especially Sarge for sharing the "what works when you all did it" The bamboo skewer idea from Spurlee worked real well. Also the start the car to get the brake pedal further to the floor from Simon was real helpful! As an side the switch I took out was mangled and bent from a heavy hand changing it. My cruise control now works like a charm and I did not get the amber "fail safe mode" or "traction control not available" when attempting to use cruise control like it did before..
Gosh I LOVE this forum and my xk8.

I had read some people were having trouble getting brake light switches and I forgot to post this when I reported success over the brake light switch install yesterday.
Napa has them in the ECHLIN/NAPA Brand part # SL1053 83.00 USD plus tax.
It looked identical down to the part numbers stamped on the bracket.

I tried from NAPA last week and here my response from them, this morning:

"Thank you for shopping on NAPAonline.com. We apologize for the delay in contacting you about your order. Unfortunately, the part you ordered is not available at this time. They are on factory back-order, and we do not have an estimated delivery date. Your order has been cancelled, and you will not be charged for the item.

We apologize for any inconvenience and again we thank you for shopping NAPAonline.com.

Hi Fetti,
I went to see my local NAPA store today and he said go to a Napa store and they can order it direct from the factory. Mack (local manager) said that was what he had to do with mine. I did not realize this as I ordered the switch and was then out of town for a week or so, and when I returned it was waiting for me. if you don't get any help from the Napa local send me a PM and i'll get you with my Napa store.
Hope this helps
Rich
