Convertible top will not go up

Convertible top will not go up
The top on my XK8 will not go up. No leaks evident and the pump is full. I did close it manually but the rear windows stay down. Tried swapping the relays around without success. I am trying to workout the top closing and opening logic sequence to determine root cause. Can anyone help?

Did you make sure that the manual bypass valve was closed (fully clockwise)?
Open the valve and manually cycle the top, including fully closing/opening the latch with the Allen key, with the ignition on so the Body Processor Module knows what is going on. Twice is nice. That should reset all the position logic. Close the valve and try the console switch.
The key in the driver door will open and close the top. Just have some patience, it is a little slow.

Well I did not know until I was told the other day. I have not tried it yet but I understand it works. Turn the key and hold it for the roof to respond. Have you looked and the diagram on my page? I am not proficient in trouble shooting this system because I never had a reason to do so. I have spent most of my energy understanding the problem with the hyd. lines. However I seem to be getting several e-mails asking me the same question. I just sent an e-mail to a guy that had the same problem. If he gets back with me I will let you know. As for the pump not working it sounds like the relay or the body processer. If it is the processer it can be reprogrammed by Jag. If the battery gets low on the car it will cause things not to be in sequence like the windows not going back up. Fuses for the roof are located in the trunk.
Good Luck!

Thanks for reminding me of that. If that is tha cause what do you think is causing the manual valve to open like that?

I did try opening and closing the top manually with the ignition on as suggested. No luck.
The roof/open warning bell sounds and the pump makes a short whirring noise as expected, but the roof does not open or close. Maybe it's time to take it to the shop.
Thanks for your help guys.

If you send me a PM with your e-mail address I will send you a check list of things you can check.

Go to my web page and I have 2 locations on the page about the hyd roof operation. Read that first.

Follow the Jaguar spec; fill to the lower hash mark on the reservoir if the top is up, to the upper mark if the top is down. The fluid level in the reservoir will change as the top is raised or lowered.
