Exhaust Tone

Hi Greg, I too have a similar system to Graham, however as you stated I have a box which seals to the hood.
The systems, both exhaust rear/ rear muffler delete as well as air intake are from Mina .
The sealed air intake pulls air through the inner fender bringing cooler air in from outside.
The roar is light, but enough for me. When you step into it, the combo of exhaust and intake is great!
The roar is powerfull, means business and lets all know you are driving a machine...
While maintaining able sophistication not to offend my driving gloves.
Rich

So, my brother and I drove to Wales this weekend to give our Dad his surprise Christmas present ( a Volvo V70 mk2 estate) I drove the Volvo because as much as I love the Jag and this must be the same for most of the members on here, I never get to see what it looks like when it's being driven! It looks amazing!! beautiful car!I recommend it to anyone. I digress.
So I was driving behind my Jag and the exhaust note is great!! It's not quiet at all like I thought it was. From inside it's a nice purr, but from the back ,under heavy acceleration it sounds wicked!
So all i'm going to do for the moment at least is fit a Ramair cold ( i mean cold) air filter.
Overtook a nice looking silver/grey XKR convertable on the way home too :-)

I didn't personally do it (it had already been done when I bought the car) but yes the rear silencers have been deleted. It actually sounds really nice on acceleration. I'll also find out this week what the cold air feed does for the sound :-)

I got to take an F-type V-8S convertible from jaguarUSA for the last 4 days and the exhaust is so unbelievably loud you just can't believe it's legal to be driven on the street. It's simply intoxicating. Apart from the exhaust, the rigidity of the chassis and the cowl is so firm that there is simply no difference between it and a coupe. When I got back into my 2002 XKR convertible, this afternoon, it was like driving a bowl of jello, there is so much more jigglyness. The F-type is just magnificent as a driving car, even compared to my 2010 XKR coupe.
That said, parked next to my 2002, I have to admit that I still prefer this body style to anything since. The F-type is beautiful, the first gen XK8/R classic, sensuous, magnificent. The other place that our cars excel compared to the F-type is quietness in the cabin. The F-type has a lot (way too much) of road noise transmitted into the cabin with the roof up as well as a lot of wind noise. Even though the top is beautifully done, in fact, it doesn't look like a convertible headliner at all, it is still very noisy inside. Our cars have a much quiter ride as well as a much smoother one, but can't compare power, handling, steering, solidness wise. It is a tour de force. And we have a cavernous trunk, the F-type a sliver.
But that sound, oh my goodness, that sound is worth every penny.

+1 on the tips more people need to address this... this is an exhaust tuning issue often overlooked or never mentioned.

The majority of people don't address this. Running two under axle straight pipe, leaving the stock center, stock resonators, rear muffler delete and through these tips, is pure sexy. There ain't a video on you tube to duplicate the sound. So after my interior is done, perhaps I shall be the first man on here to demonstrate my logic.
Those tiny tips folks are getting really can destroy expectations. These will definitely make your car sound way better than you like.
3.5 in outlet, 2.25in inlet or 2.50in inlet, whichever you have the exhaust shop use.

Would you care to at least reveal what brand is in the picture?

Do you have resonated or non-resonated tips? Dual or single outlets? What diameter produces the throatier sound 2.5", 3.5", 4"?
What's your thoughts and experience on the subject? I also have resonated, 3.5"

An XK8 is not that slow at all lol.Its simple human error. With the sports button on,traction off.
Left foot on the brake, right on the gas pedal, rev up, so when you let go of that brake the torque converter is not slipping and your launch is fast and hard! You want to reach that mid range fast.
Accelerator cable adjustment is crucial. Don't just get rid of slack, make it so the car revs the second the pedal is touched, you want the most out of that first gear! If your barking tires the abs will tell the ecm to reduce torque and change the throttle angle, beware of this!!!
1.The exhaust cringes over the axle, just have an exhaust shop run it under the axle.
2.Only use 93 octane as lower octane results in the knock sensors pulling timing.
3.Take the throttle cable and adjust so its sensitive to acceleration(less slack) and instal high performance air filter.Clean that old MAF sensor with maf sensor cleaner or electrical contact cleaner.
4.Get modern oxygen sensors, and new spark plugs. Those old 10+year old oxygen sensors are slow responding and junk, compared to the new sensors.
For under a $500 hundred bucks, your xk8 will please you.My old xk8 initial acceleration and mid-range was incredible after this! 0-60 was a snap, reaction time is also important,.
