??HELP?? Trying to Buy DOUBLE DIN CD/DVD/NAV stereo!
Ok guys thanks for the feedback on my recent post!
I have another question though…. I'm planning to remove my stock jaguar deck and replace it with a double din. I was told it should fit without a problem. Is this true? Also have any of you installed a aftermarket cd/dvd/nav Double Din Stereo in your Jag? If you have Please place some pics here to share with the rest of us. As you might know I have a 2000 Jaguar S Type V6 so if you have upgrade to a Double Din let me know asap please because I'm thinking of installing one over the weekend.
[&:]Thanks in advance!
I'm installing a Kenwood DNX7120 tomorrow.
Garmin based, usb/iPod/MP3. It's perfect. No silly DVD to update and no DVD to swap out.
I researched it to death and stay away from DVD based or Pioneer.

I installed the Pioneer AVic D3 in mine and so far have been pretty happy with it. I know that Pioneer just came out with a new AVIC-F90BT which looks pretty slick. They have some good video of reviews of it over at http://www.avic411.com. The only thing I am not that happy with on my D3 is the Nav but it looks like some of the issue have been taken care of with this new version.
As far as installing it I wussed out and took it to an audio place to get it done. I figured I have a nice car I don't want to be messing it up by mucking around taking things a part. Here are a few pics of my D3.

Cosworth,
Maybe I'm showing my ignorance by asking, but what is the difference if it's a Pioneer/DVD based or Garmin based? I'm curious because I'm assuming either way you'll have availability for updates when new maps become available correct?

dvd based systems require a dvd to be in the player in order for the GPS to function...Garmin based systems have memory in the unit and maps can be updated via a usb cable or SD memory card.
damn you non-xj jag owners! i want to put a double din in my xj8, but it wont fit!

Mine was installed this way. They sort of laugh at it (installers) since it's easier to install it that way and everyone wants it. Sort of silly to have to pull over to click the home button for example.
I have a 2000 S-Type - Different setup than than '03+ so I'm not familiar with it. My install was pretty easy with only slight modification to the trim plate of the radio.
The Kenwood is a really nice unit and like Cos I researched the heck out of them. If you do go with the Kenwood and want XM satellite, do not get the XM receiver that has the traffic, weather, and XM radio combined.
Garmin integrated the XM in with the nav. and the interface is clumsy at best. I had that unit and returned it for the Terk XM Direct setup and it utilizes the Kewood interface, unlike the all in one from Garmin.
If you want the traffic feature, which is pretty cool, Garmin makes a couple of units that plug right into the radio and will integrate full with the nav. Much cheaper than the all in one unit.
