Default I'm back in a jag!!

Had a XJ6 1983 for 12 years and after that experience swore never again !
Sold it in 2000 and bought a brand new Holden Commodore Acclaim VT series 11 in it's place and it has been fabulous. Only done 42,000 kms.
Last week took the plunge and bought a 2003 XJ8 X350 Quartz Grey colour. What a car !!! I hope it won't break my heart like the last one.
Anyway ,if you know anyone looking for a fabulous no accidents, all tests welcome , Tungsten grey auto 1 owner since new Commodore with RWC that looks almost new and drives like new...call me on 0407642662. Only $9995.AUD. This is one of those once in a life time opportunities.
Any way, back to the Jag. Not only have I never owned a car like this, but I have never BEEN in a car like this. What a ride!! Even the wife didn't object. Looking forward to many a good time this lovely machine. Need two second hand tyres for the rear. 235/50 ZR 18 07 W . Can anyone help?
Cheers to all.

Hi guys, how's it going? First time here, but i definitely think i'll be back. We live in the South East of Melbourne and I've got a 2003 X-Type 2.5, drive it mostly on the weekends as it's our second car but i do love it. I also love how it is a little bit different to all the other 'luxury' cars around and it always seems to get noticed, even though it's no longer new.

Default Hullo from Point Cook in Vic.

Hullo to All, names Jim, live in Point Cook Victoria, finally got a JAAAAG!
I was born around 20 miles from the Coventry factory and saw Jags driving around my home in the 60's and thats when I decided I had to have one, finally my dream came true, 2003 S type R 4.2 litre Eaton Supercharger, what a car!
Moved from a Touareg, a beautful 4wd, there is no comparison, chalk and cheese, both wonderful cars but one of em's a Jag! WooHoo!
Maybe see you at the 2011 Jag Concours at Wesley College on the 27th. of November.

Welcome to the best Jag forum Jim.
Glad to see you were smart and bought an STR!
There wouldnt be too many STR owners in this country.
Probably 100 or so. Its boring having another M5 or E55/63 like everyone else.
Whilst the STR may not be as fast it is a better daily compromise.
It was not designed to replicte these cars from the start.
Drove a new C63 the other day. didnt like it; too loud, too lairy, too firm, its a hoons car I couldnt live with every day.

Had mine for 3.5 years, previous first owner was a 74 year old who clocked 39,000km before I got to it!
Its a pampered car and I do whatever I can on it myself. Take it to the dealers once a year for a 'health check' only. Last time they charged me about $250 and gave me a list of what needed doing. I did it all myself from there.
I would estimate this forum and some common sence (not to mention Amazon and fleaBay), have saved me easy $10,000 during this time.

Small things can break down with big price tags if you go to the wrong areas.

Tell us a bit more about your car.

Cheers John.

Hi local Jag lovers, I am a new member and have had a bit of really useful interaction on the forum globally, but like several others have just found this regional section. I'm in Melbourne and have recently acquired a '97 X300 3.2 XJ Sport in fantastic condition. This is no "sports" car, but boy what a fabulous cruiser - love it to bits!! 0-100 is probably best measured with a calender, but once up there she's a great performer. I've always wanted one of these beautiful machines and I'm looking forward to being part of the local Jaguar fraternity!
Best wishes, Tony.

Default Hi from Auckland, NZ

Hi All,

This is my hello to the Australia/NZ section of the forum. You can also see a hello from me in the main introduction section.

I am especially interested in buying an XK8 or maybe XKR at the moment.

I notice lots of Melburnians here - a great place and one I love to visit. Would be great to make contact with any Jagaholics around Auckland if there are any.

Default Welcome newbies

Hi all,

Welcome to the new Aus & NZ guys. I'm a recent member myself, living in Melbourne (Nth Croydon) with a '97 X300 3.2 Sport.

A great tip on tyres for these cars...I have fixed the "tramlining" or slightly wandering tendancy these XJ's have by ditching the Pirelli P6000's in favour of new Toyo Teo Eco's. Fantastic tyres, far superior ride and handling! I was recommeded by two separate tyre experts to try Toyo and one suggested Falken, but the Toyo's seem to have the best reputation. The over-priced and over-rated Pirelli's are no longer for me!

I also find that 98 octane PULP gives better performance and economy than the prescribed 95 on my car. Although a few cents a litre more, I'm convinced it gives better value.

Enjoy your summer cruising!

Cheers,
Tony.

Default Hi to all.

I'm in the eastern subs of Melbourne and I just bought a '98 XJ8 LWB Soveriegn, after my '98 XJ308 totaled from the rar a few months ago. I have my car serviced by Gary Ayre at Jagayre in Clayton, very inexpensive and very good. Love my car, it just purrs. Only thing I've done to the new one is have an Alpine bluetooth radio put in. Sorry I put the Alpine in, Sony are a much better choice, as they also have BT audio streaming, and the Alpine doesn't. Got persuaded by the installer, but hey, can't blame anyone but my self.
Cheers,

Frank

Rob.
Rob,

I also live in Bris, and am very interested in how you are managing to import a car from the UK when you live here. I've looked into this a lot, and the only way I found was as a personal import which one had to have owned & used outside of Aus for 12 months before bringing it in.

Cheers,

I've just asked Rob about how he is getting around the importation rules for Aus, but as I understand it, there are only two ways that you can bring in a Marque & Model of car that has been offered for sale new here. One is as a personal import which you have owned & driven abroad for at least 12 months. The other is as Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle which has to be imported under the RAWS scheme.
Any Marque & Model vehicle that was offered for sale new, will not be supplied with an Australian Compliance Plate (a Statement or Letter of Compliance will not do), and neither Jaguar Australia nor the Dept of Transport will issue that unless you meet one of those two requirements. The only other exception to this is a vehicle which was manufactured prior to 1st January 1989, when ADR's became Law.
There are no current RAWS scheme workshops in Aus that are licenced to approve Jaguars. (I had a discussion on Friday with a Registered Engineer who has expressed an interest in becoming licenced under the RAWS Scheme, but that will still only cover vehicles that were NOT offered for sale here new.
XKate, I think you have jumped the gun by purchasing the car, DO NOT SHIP it from the UK until you have both the Import Approval AND a letter from the Dept of Transport + one from Jaguar Australia stating that you will be supplied with a Compliance Plate. Otherwise you may find yourself watching the car being Auctioned for wrecking, have to export it somewhere else, or or worse being crushed at your expense. I'm not joking, my business partner has been importing Jags & Landrovers for wrecking for some years, and he cannot bring a complete car in for that purpose. It must be cut in half before it lands. To bring in a body shell intact, the engine, gearbox, & suspension must have been removed. Those parts cannot be shipped separately and re-assembled into the one car either. It will not be given a Compliance Plate.
The only place you might then be able to ship the car to intact is NZ, and even their rules have been tightened considerably since 1st January this year. I know, I am a Licensed Trader in NZ.
If anybody on the Forum thinks that they know a way around the Australian Rules, or has brought in a car that had been previously offered new here and didn't have to meet the two Rules above in recent times please communicate with me.
I would dearly love to find a way to bring in a 1996 XK8 Convertible I have been offered with only 13,009 kms on the clock.

Cheers,

Languid

XKate,

That car cannot be sent to NZ, as it will not comply with the Emissions Requirements (Euro IV). I'm fairly sure that it cannot go to Fiji, either.

Chami,

You will qualify under the Personal Import Rules provided that you have owned & used the car for 12months prior to your return. It will have to meet the ADR's relevant for the year of manufacture, which shouldn't be a problem , since the cars sent here new are the same as those sent to HK & NZ, and are almost certainly the same as new in UK.
The only requirement that you will have to meet is the top tether fittings for child safety restraints in the rear, which I understand to be a couple of bolts & a strap. I beleive the threaded bolt places are already in the car from manufacture.

be very aware of the 12 month rule.

Cheers,

Languid

Jeremy,

That's pretty well right, which is why I haven't gone there either. I also won't consider a UK car because of the salt used on the roads to combat ice. Once they have done a couple of winters there, they are trouble unless they were garaged for the winters. I've also noticed that the UK cars tend to have relatively high kms on them.

Cheers,

Languid

And we don't import cars from Japan to NZ because they are not identical to NZ new.
