Default Importing Daimler Sovereign Coupe into Australia

Hello All,
Id like a bit of advice im looking to move to australia next year and i would like to take a Daimler sovereign coupe (very similar to Jaguar XJC) with me its 1976 so it falls under "Pre -89 scheme" what i want to know is the cost of getting it engineered inspected to be registered in NSW. I have done searches on loads of different websites but have struggled to find out what will actually need to be changed on the car to make it roadworthy.
I know these cars were sold in australia does that affect how easy it is to register.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. You might want to stop by the new members section & introduce yourself.

I don't know the details but I can only suggest you get in contact with the guys at www.ironladyimports.com they specialise in that sort of thing.

They will be arranging the import of my XJR when I move to Sydney next year.

I imported an '86 Porsche Cabrio from the UK back in early 2011, and like you had trouble coming up with definitive costs etc.

I ended up using an import company to bring the car back (in a container) - costs looked like this:

Purchase price of car - $23,360.66
Shipping - $3,658.61
Duties and taxes - $3,986.76
Australian agent costs - $2,623.00
Compliance - $935
Registration - $1,500.82

Total - $36,064.85

The import/shipping company I used is called CargoOnline (International Car Shipping | International Auto Transport | Shipping a Car) and were very efficient. The engineer is in Leichhardt (not part of CargoOnline), and a couple of my friends who've also imported 911's also used him on my recommendation.

If you want more info on the costings (break downs etc), the process etc just drop me a line, or post here.

Regards

Rob

Actually I've just re-read your original post. If you're bringing it as a personal import as part of migration, the rules for compliance are totally different than for a pre-89 (ie very easy - you don't generally have to make it ADR compliant).

For my 911 compliance the biggest things were the pollution/emission system and side intrusion bars in the doors, but again, as a personal import these rules may not apply.

The best would be to email the engineer direct (Peter Gillard - peter "at" 550spyder.com.au) and I'm sure he'll be able to give you some free advice.

Regards

Rob
