Default 2015 Meet up and Run #2

In keeping with the ideas thread here is a list (incomplete) of a few events coming up that we may be able to drop in on over the next couple of months:

26 April - Victorian Historic Racing Register hiilclimb @ Rob Roy
26 April - Gippsland Car Club Multiclub hillclimb @ Bryant Park (Haunted Hills)
3 May - MG Car Club hillclimb @ Rob Roy
15-17 May - V8 Supercars @ Winton
22-24 May - Shannons Nationals Phillip Island
24 May - Vic Hillclimb Champs rnd5 Shepparton
31 May - Gippsland Khanacross @ Bryant Park
12-14 June - Shannons Nationals @ Winton
21 June - Vic Hillclimb Champs rnd6 @ Bryant Park

Please add suggest any other club days/venues I havent put in. I was going to suggest Porsche Club days at Bryant Park as we have been before and it was good viewing. However their days there dont fall in this window.

Anyone else interested in selecting and organising this one?

Sandy and I will do the winter winery round (taking one for the team with exploratory visits to the Mornington Peninsula). Will open another thread for that one

I'd be interested in one of the shannon's events. Should be plenty of old cars to look at.

Have to say the Shannon's days would also appeal to me, the Island would probably get my vote....

I am away OS between 1 June and 5 July and will miss some of those dates.

But , how about this .

Pencil in Sat 23 May.

Very rough plan for a drive will be to leave earlyish 0730-0800 hrs ;

Eltham - Healesville - Black Spur - Mansfield - Winton Raceway for a lunch time speed limited parade lap(TBC) during the WRX club sprints day. There is always some other nice machinery at their days. Porsche , Ferrari , etc.
Head home however and whenever you want.

I'll do some work on finding some interesting roads to travel on the way up and back. Lots of bends , some nice scenery and the occasional straight.

I'll do a reccy beforehand

Let me know if anyone is keen and I'll move forward on it.

Hell , I'll go on my own anyway. Any excuse to get the new car out

Pete

We are away most of June as well, so the plan works for us. Easy for us to say yes as we live half way along the route. If you want to make the route interesting the road across from Merton to Euroa is more interesting than the Lake Nillacohtie Rd before Mansfield. Lots of curves initially then flattening out to the highway.

There are some nice venues for lunch in that area if people want to visit the event and then move on for lunch. We go up there a bit as our daughter is in Wangaratta.

Lets see what the others say.

Have you picked up your car yet?

Hi Steve

From Mansfield I was going to go the Mansfield -Tolmie and Tatong-Tolmie rd up to Benalla /Winton.

Do you know if the Tatong-Tolmie rd is bitumen all the way?

Depending on time , I was thinking of going into Marysville and then cutting up to Buxton.

I get the car down in Tassie on the 12 April and back over night on the Spirit

I agree, the Merton to Euroa road is a great run. I once did it early one foggy winter morning - added a whole new driving dimension!

Yep. I remember doing that one , returning to Bonnie Doon from the Violet Town market. Nice road.
Leave it with me.

Most Likely . Eltham -Healesville-Alexandra ( to pick up Steve )- Merton - Euroa-Winton on the way up.

Home- Winton-Euroa- Merton-Alex-Healesville- Kinglake ( via the Chum Ck Rd across to the Melba) - Eltham ( individual choice from the Melba can be Yarra Glen or across to Kinglake and then Eltham either via Panton Hill or if necess some can go via Heidelberg- Kinglake rd)

There are some nice roads in there and lots of Coffee/Wee stops if necessary.

Will do some rout notes for the day.

Wouldnt put too much into it just yet. So far we dont have many starters, and two who expressed interest in the Shannons events. Lets see who else expresses an interest.

I am pretty flexible with a clear diary at the moment. I enjoy the cruise regardless of the destination.

Okay team

I will be offering this meet up and run option for Sat 23 May.

UP. Eltham -Healesville-Black Spur- Alexandra- Merton-Benalla-Winton ( for a 12.00 display/ speed controlled drive lap around the circuit as guests of the Subaru Club. It is one of their club event days. Some nice Porsches and other machinery are usually there also)
Leaving Eltham between 7.00-8.00. Let me crunch the numbers to be at Winton at 12.00 and have a couple of stops on the way to collect people as we go maybe. Exact ETD TBA

HOME- Winton-Benalla-Bonnie Doon- Alexandra- Healesville- Chum creek road to Kinglake( good driving road)-St Andrews-Eltham.
Probably leave Winton 2.00-3.00 or whenever you want really to make your own way home if you like.

I'll probably bung it up on the Jag Club Vic website also

Ask any questions in the meantime either here or by PM.

Pete

Mmmmm

That didn't translate too well.

The 0000-0000 is the time , the next number is the kms of a section and the text is obviously from where to where.

Will confirm in a week or so. Was thinking of going to Historic Winton (cars and bikes) on the following weekend , should know shortly if that is happening or not.

Cheers

As in Kho Samui Oz.

Geez , I'm not certain I can feel your pain at missing a run

Back in the 80's I crewed on a boat out of Geelong , called Casablanca.

We did the 1985 Syd-Hobart.

Have a great time
