Hi everyone,

My Jaguar Series 2 XJ12 recently failed a roadworthy because the seat bases on the front seats weren't mounted and simply come out. They seem to sit in there nicely and I haven't found any evidence to suggest that they are held in by anything, no screw holes, nothing. I haven't found any schematics that show anything. Did the mechanic just not understand that the car was made like this? Any insight would be awesome!

I think you will find the mechanic is correct and there has been a modification or repair to the car that has not been completed properly. Seats being secured is pretty fundamental especially in the event of an accident.
