Default Keeping Black Black

Hi all,

I recently became the proud slave to a 2006 S Type.

The trim around the windshield had developed a white haze (probably from sunlight acting on old polish).

I found that spit shining the trim restored the black, without any traces of white haze.

I hope that this is useful to the rest of you.

If it is already widely known, please excuse a newbie.

Ira

moved you to detailing Ira instead of general tech area.

I would think the 'spit' has an acidic nature to it...yes, you may remove the white haze, but what about other effects?

Hmmm, is there enough spit to actually hurt plastic in that way?

Spit/saliva should be slightly alkaline with a ph of just over 7. If it becomes very acidic you might want to seek medical advice because this could be an indication of something not right internally.

Oddly sour apples are about the same ph as saliva, so if you run out of spit before getting all the way around the car, maybe a slice of apple will help.

However don't forget that your 'spit' also contains starch digesting enzymes and perhaps this helps with the cleaning proccess. Sure helps when polishing leather, as I am certain our friends in the forces will attest to.

For keeping black trim clean, wax free, revived and protected, I suggest the following.....

Clean or prep with Meguiar's #39 or AutoGlym's Rubber Cleaner...

Treat and protect using Meguiar's Trim Detailer or Stoner's Trim Shine
