Default Ouch......

So I received a 911 emergency call last month Dec 2010 from a repeat customer that recently had a nice scrape tattooed on his Aston Martin Vanquish front bumper. The guy that backed his beat up red pick up truck from what I was told from my customer, was nobody the he wanted to ever cross paths with again. So when the driver of the truck offered to exchange info, my client got out of his vehicle, looked at the damage and replied......Have a Happy Thanksgiving, proceeded to get in his Aston and split.

So when I arrived on Saturday morning, this is what I had to repair......

Definitely a nice scrape....

In my first step, I clean all the paint transfer thoroughly with Stoner "Tarminator"

Before chemically removing transfer

After removing paint chemically

Next step was to level out all scuff marks and gauges with some wet 2000 grit Abralon

Using Mirka Abralon 2000grit by hand, I wet sanded to area smooth in preparation for the repair

After all defects were leveled out and ready for polishing

What else for the next step than Meguiar's M105

My PC 7424XP, Cyan 7/8 inch cutting pad and M105 on the repair area ready to go....

After my first pass, the damage and color sanding traces are 99% gone...No rotary polisher required for this repair

20 minutes later, this is the results.......no insurance claim, no crossing paths with some shady stranger ever again (person who hit the bumper) my customer was thrilled!

Along with the paint repair I provided my client with my "Mini Detail" service since I had detailed the vehicle about 3 months ago.

some cool water beading shots after my prep wash.......definitely well protected as you can see thanks to Poly's and my R/O water.

WOW Your detailing jobs are amazing. Great work once again Dave, thanks for posting. FYI I recently purchased a Griots Garage 6" D/A. I also bought the w86da backing pad from Meg's and use Meg's soft buff 2.0 pads. They work great, and my car is blemish free.

I am really surprised you were able to get that removed with just abrasives...man, your client was very lucky there was no paint 'damage', like a dent, tear, or chip. Great save Dave! Megs 105...got a bottle of that myself due to your previous recommendations.

I find it interesting that a lot of pros seem to use the Porter Cable 7424!

You did a great job on those scratches!

Not bad for a D/A to be able to remove 2000 grit sanding marks without a rotary.....or the fear of going thru the clear coat.

I have always used and have been able to depend on the Porter Cable line of D/A's. I originally started with the PC7424, but now that they have introduced their more powerful D/A the PC7424XP, I have replaced all of my D/A arsenal. It comes with a great mfg warranty, and best of all they can be purchased at a very affordable price. I think the last set I purchased ran me under $100.00 each delivered at my doorstep. I have no need to purchase any other make or model D/A, the Porter Cable has always come thru for me....any other correction is performed using a rotary polisher.

Thanks again Alan for the good words!

I didn't even realize that the 7424XP is more powerful, that would explain why a lot of pros use it!

I hated my 7424 because it wasn't powerful enough, and after a few minutes, my hands would be absolutely numb. Since then, I have switched over to my Flex 3401 VRG and I feel as though it works a lot better for an amateur like me (who has less patience than a real professional): much more powerful, faster paint correction, and less noise and hand fatigue. But it also seems to have less accessories available and is also more expensive.
