Default Gear rising only the second time.

HELP!
I'm having a weird issue with the gear selector, it only rises after i start the car then turn it off then start it again and then the gear selector rises up. I was told by the dealer than i need to replace the gear selector unit which is a $800+labor job.
would think it would be an easier fix, i made a video on youtube showing the issue.
I am new to the forum. 😅

Is the car still under warranty?

OK, so the car's warranty had expired.
I think there is no problem on your car's gear selector (or who knows it could be playing a trick on you) . If there's a problem with it, it will not rise at all or will not go down. My guess is, there is a unit or computer glitch that is instructing the gear selector to rise on the second start cycle. I would do a 'Hard Reset" and see what happens.
Maybe someone here can give his/her own input or analysis.

Thank you for having the time to come back to the forum and to give us an updated result that your problem with gear shift has been resolved. It is really a mystery how these electronics inside our Jaguars react when they do not get enough juice coming from the battery. For instance, on several models, when mostly everything lits up (like the twinkle lights on a Christmas Tree) in your car's dashboard error after error is also a sign of battery going bad. There are also on some models, once you press the key fob button you don't get a reaction or any command but the car still starts. These are some of the things that I read from this forum that a lot of Jaguar owners experienced when the battery goes bad or is about to go bad. Once my car's battery is in need of a replacement in the near future, I will replace it with an AGM battery
