Default 1969 4.2 2+2 US to UK conversion

Hi All

I'm about to import a 1969 4.2 2+2 Series 2 automatic into the UK from the States.

Could anyone give me advise as to what parts to replace or amend/adjust to make it suitable for use in the UK?

I imagine that the biggies are the headlights and the rear tail lights and also the fitting of an offside mirror...but any other pointers would be gratefully accepted.

As for the rear tail lights...I see that a UK/European spec lens cover is available...but on further study...they have an amber top for indicator and red below...however...it seems that the light cluster fitted to US spec cars have a side by side light configuration. Would this them mean replacing the whole fitting?

Are there any other issues I should be looking at? Anything else that would need attention to pass a UK MOT? It's mechanically good and essentially rust and corrosion free being a Californian car.

I may look into converting to RHD with a kit at some point...but that's not a priority just yet. And I'm not worried about differential ratios as I just want to enjoy having the car. It has twin Zenith carbs which are again not a worry to me.

Many thanks in advance and hopefully I'll be a regular visitor to the E Type forum...my present car is an XK8 4.2 coupe.

Kind regards

Andrew

Have you checked with DVLA for regulations on registration of imported vehicles that do not meet UK specifications?

Oh yes..I have thoroughly checked all the DVLA and HMRC info. But they do not go into specifics...they just require an MOT pass.

Then perhaps a chat with a local garage you've used for MoT in the past would be in order. I've seen some dodgy MoT inspections over the years.

Yeah, If your staying left hand drive , it should be fun swapping the lights and driving on the other side.
Does anyone care at your MOT on such and old car, I though recently they stopped inspections for older cars?
Just remember anyone who would have been at mot in 1969 is basically dead.
Hopefully not but you get the point.
Good luck
