Default Diff ratio

Looking for your collective wisdom to help me source a replacement diff.

Current ratio is 3.54 (pwrlock) which makes motorway or open road journeys a punishing experience (I guess it doesn't help my normal family car does 2000 rpm at 85mph). I am not an acceleration freak so happy to live with the trade-off.

Looking for a 3.07 or 2.88 (these seem common) - any thoughts?

Also, who knows of a good source for a replacement unit in the UK?

Cheers as always !

The 3.07 will drop your highway rpm by about 500 rpm. I just did this switch and in the process of putting it back together. I was told the 2.88 would drop the revs too much, unless you like to cruise at 80 mph.

Thank you Alfred, that's exactly the kind of change I want.

Any good references from the community on good places to source one from?

cheers

Depending on your budget you might want to consider a 5 speed box. People I have met that have done this seem satisfied. As is probably obvious, 5th is an overdrive that will give you high speed performance similar to the 3.07 without losing acceleration. Big negative, your car is no longer correct if you wish to show it and resale value might be affected (either up or down). An additional plus, your speedometer remains correct.
