E brake Disassembly
I'm attempting to re-build the e-brake calipers. The first thing you need to do is remove the screw that holds the cover on. Unfortunately, the thing it screws into just spins. Any ideas?

OK, so there are the two caliper arms, and the caliper operating lever which applies the brake and has two pressed steel covers over the adjustment mechanism. The two covers are secured together with a screw that screws into a captive nut on the inner cover. Is this what is spinning ?
Yes. The captive nut is spinning. I successfully ground off the head of the screw on one that backed out about 1/4 of an inch. (I can get new screws.) The other is still sitting in the indentation. I'm probably going to have to carefully grind the head off without damaging the cover.
Things do seem to have moved on. When I rebuilt the rear calipers on my 1980 XJ6, all the caliper parts were available including the covers. These are the same as the E-type. That was in the 90s, yet I see that even SNG Barratt shows them as NLA.
It might be best to try to put a drill into the screw head and drill off the head. A fiddly job, and you'll need a vice to keep it secure while you drill.
