Default E Series Brake Master cylinder replacement

I recently replaced my brake master cylinder on my 1970 E Series II. After bleeding the brakes and taking it for a test drive, the brakes engage but don't release completely. The force was so great from the piston in the calipers that at times that my brake pads smoked. Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like your reaction valve on the end of your master cylinder is applying boosted pressure to the system. I am rebuilding all this stuff myself at the moment.

This is a new master cylinder. I am aware of the piston you mentioned but I don't understand what you mean when you "reversed" the position in the cylinder. Can you please explain.
