Default Experience/opinions sought on rear crank seal conversion

I've got the engine apart on my '74 Panther, which has a Series II XJ6 engine. I've got the crank out, so I could have it modified for one of the aftermarket lip seal conversions if I choose.
What's you experience with these and the vendors who supply them? I live in a small town and I'm still researching to see if we even have a shop who can be trusted to perform the modification to the seal area of the crank.
On the other hand, I could just put the factory rope seal in and size it properly with the factory tool, which I have access to from JCNA. And wait for it to start leaking in a few years.
A third option that I've read about is to replace the Jaguar rope seal with a Ford graphite-impregnated rope seal, but I'm still trying to find details on this alternative.
Opinions/experience?
