So I cleaned up the underside post oil change in an effort to see where my oil leaks are coming from. One is a drip coming from the clutch slave cylinder. It is dripping from where the rubber boot meets the housing. I believe this has been leaking for a while, so don’t think a failure is imminent. However, that is not right. I have included a picture for reference. Should I replace the slave cylinder or is there something I can tighten to stem the leak. I read that there is an upgrade to stock internals using an Izuzu Trooper slave cylinder repair kit. Anyone here done that?
The other leak seems to be coming from somewhere above where the oil pan meets the engine block in the forward section. Another photo for reference. I circled where it might be coming from since it’s wet up there. I originally thought it might be the oil pan gasket, but that is good. I’ll clean it better to get a more accurate read. Is there a common area up there that tends to leak? Also, the fan belt tensioner spring is pretty oily too. Anything you guys think I should look at in particular? Thanks.
Hi t6dpilot,
Regarding the leaking slave cylinder, there is nothing to tighten internally to stop the leak. You can buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it, or you can buy a new slave cylinder. As for the oil leak, that can be hard to find. As oil leaks as you drive, the oil is hot and flows easily. All the wind turbulence under the bonnet can blow the oil in all directions. What you have in mind is the way to do it. Clean the whole area well, go for a drive to warm up the oil, and then park it putting some clean paper towels under suspected areas. Where you see the drops will give you an idea of the starting point for where to start looking for the leak.
Good luck.
Bill.
Ditto on nothing can be done to "tighten" up the slave cylinder. You can buy a rebuild kit, but the problem often is a scored or worn cylinder wall, which no rebuild kit can fix. Been there done that on my other BCs. Your T-6 may not have hydraulic brakes and for sure, no hydraulic clutch. It's usually the cylinder bore that's the issue.
does a fine job, plus they offer a lifetime warranty. If you don't need the car for a bit, then best to just take it off and send it in. Nothing's worse than taking it off, attempting to rebuild it, put it back in and still have a leak. Plus that fluid can damage other surfaces and possibly components.
