Default hi i am new and need help

hi iam new to the forum and my reason for coming is for some advice

i have a v12 72 coupe that i put away in a friends garage about 18 months ago as i planned on fixing it up as it needed some work doing and it has not seen the light since
i now need to take it out the garage and move it as my friend is moving house.
i went to look at in the other day and its now looking very sorry for its self and will not start at all as expected for not moving for so long
i have been told that there may be some resistor that will in doing to get it running again but i am unsure and have not got the money or time to look into anything anymore so iam going to sell it

the things i need your help with is whats best to do

is it better to sell the car as it is as a none runner or spend a little money on it to get it running again then sell it. the car is i need of alot of tlc as the inside needs work as well worn and a few rips in the seats and so dose the outside at some point in its life its been resprayed and not very well at that the paints cracked and peeled in many places i do know that under the car there is no rot at all its in very good condition there

how much dose this car fetch now days i do understand that until somone views the car you cant realy give a price but i just want a ruff idea in the condition its in

its now going to be out in the rain so want to sell it soon before the rain gets to it

what other things should i do or look into if i do decide to get it running again after all this time and i dont want to break it by just trying to start it up

any more info you may need to help me just say

thanks james

Well, the car looks pretty good from the picture you sent. If it ran before you put it away, I would say you should put some effort into getting it running again as it will bring considerably more money. If it was running before, you might be able to get things going again with an oil change, drain the gas and replace with fresh, and charge the battery. Gas getting old in the carbs can be a real problem and may require rebuilding the carbs, but even if that is needed it would get you a better return than if it is not running.

I agree with rdwalters. Even if it has no MOT, a running engine will always help to sell it as that big V12 engine is a huge risk to a buyer if you can't hear it running. The buyer can then also run through the gears and move a few feet, try the brakes, lights, alternator charging, etc. So you'd get a lot more money for it. V12 Jaguars fetch good money nowadays so you should sell it fairly easily.

Is there a spark at the plugs? Ifg not, and if the ballast resistor is still - as in the day - between the two cylinder blocks it is a common fault that they fail. If not, perhaps the coil, but first and foremost check the battery voltage. It might not be up to the job.

Oh, and did you change the petrol? Modern petrol separates and creates a sludge. Disconnect fuel line from the tank under the bonnet and turn the ignition on to run some petroil through and check.
