Default Horn Button Question

The horn has never worked in my car during my ownership. I found out that the PO had tried to pry the button up and broken the plastic holding it in. He then glued the piece back together with a piece of sponge in it to make it appear that it was working.

Looking down the spline shaft I can not see any wiring. I did find the relay and it has wiring of the proper color attached to it.

My question -- What is underneath the horn button? Does it have electrical contacts in it or just what? I suppose I should buy a new horn button anyway but it would be nice to know just what else may be involved in making the horn work.

Hi Bigcat 45,
I don't know which year E-Type you have. but on my 1968 FHC, the horn is on the steering column.
Where in Florida are you? I am in the Daytona area.
Bill.

By the "Horn Button", do you mean the big Jag motif button in the middle of the steering wheel? If so, that may not be your horn button.
Mine is a '69 series 2, and the horn is on the end of the indicator stalk.

I have a US 69 Series 2 and the horn is at the end of the stalk to the left of the steering wheel.

Here is a thread that may help:

I believe they moved the horn switch from the button to the stalk in 68 when they introduced a collapsible steering column.

Default Horn button question

Thanks folks, I now have it sorted out. Apparently the PO did not realize that the button was in the end of the turns signal stalk and he tried to make the emblem LOOK like it should be working.
