Default Looking for cam cover gasket wisdom ...

I'm about to install the cam covers on my XJ6 S2 engine rebuild and I'm wondering what's everyone's experience with a leak-proof seal. Hylomar on both sides of the gasket? Just one side? Grease? No dressing? No gasket and some other sealant?

If both surfaces are pristine....no gouges, tool marks, and such....and flat.....then install 'em dry. Otherwise use a bit of whatever non-hardening sealant you like best.

I always use sealant on the half moon seals, though....even if I install the gaskets dry.

Others will chime in.

Cheers
DD
