Default Lubricating Speedometer Cables Etc.

On XKE cables do you disconnect at dash and lubricate expecting the spinning cable to move the lubricant downwards or lubricate at lowest point expecting the spinning cable to move the lubricant upwards?

I've used dry lubricant, pulled the cable out and rubbed it with a dry lubricant. Grease or oil attracts dirt and can gum up the cable.

I second Bob's advice. Pull the cable core, wipe it clean, lube with dry graphite and reinsert it. It should go back in relatively easily if you twist it while applying moderate pressure.

What I would suggest is to undo both ends. Remove the cable. Spray carb cleaner through the cable sheath. Then follow the instructions on page 8:
