Default New E-Type Owner -1965 4.2 FHC

I just took delivery of a 1965 E-Type FHC.
The car came with a bunch of pix of the restoration and various family pix with the car, along with almost 300 receipts back to the early 80's

I'm confused?? Your E is dated as a September '64 build 4.2. It is my understanding production of the 4.2 switched over from the 3.8 to the 4.2 with updated interior in October of 1964 according to several restoration/authentication publications. Interesting in that my Jaguar Heritage certified October '64 E OTS was produced with the last of the 3.8's mated to a Moss box, and a handful of 4.2 interior changes not including the newer reclining seats. Who knows how all this fell together during the production changeover?

Interesting observation Lotibob,
I think one explanation is that Jaguar sold more OTS than coupes. This would create a situation where the OTS car assembly was still trying to fulfill existing 1964 orders, while the coupes were being built for recent orders and for anticipated 1965 sales. But in reality; who knows. Seems to me that implementation of running changes and improvements on the assembly line was more an art than a science.

Welcome thomn8r,
Nice looking car. I hope you enjoy it to the fullest!

LotiBob,
Your build date was October 1964, What was the dispatch date? I wonder if they were transposed. My understanding was that the last 200+/- 3.8L E-type were built with the new synchro gearbox.

I see the Date of manufacture as 25 September, and the Date of dispatch as 7 October

Yesterday I took it to one of the local Jag repair places and we spent 3 hours going over it. It has a couple of oil leaks, and a diff leak which has soiled one of the brake pads. There's random bolts missing here and there. It needs a valve adjustment, and I need to spend some quality time under it with a grease gun and gear oil pump.

Installed mufflers - the previous owner had deleted them. It sounded cool, but was a little bit obnoxious, and had a heavy drone between 3000 and 4000 RPM
