Please advise a chassis number of XKE Jaguar
Hi everyone.
Now I have Jaguar XKE 1970 OTS LHD ,
It's chassis number is 2R1nnnn on the plate and the title.
But there is no 2 on the body .
Should I need to add 2 in the front of the number ?
Or usually the first digit is not on a body ?
If someone shows me a sample of a chassis number picture ,
it's very helpful.
Thanks
Mac

Hi Mac,
I also had a very original 1970 OTS that I got when it was very new and un-molested. There are several places to find the serial number and the body, engine and transmission number on the commission plate. That is under the voltage regulator next to the battery inside the bonnet or under the fuel filter bowl on the opposite side. There is a plate inside the windscreen with the serial # on the driver's side. Another is on the top of the shock mount on the left front sub frame. These should all be the same. The body number is usually found pop riveted to the right rear bulkhead inside the license plate recess. A 5 DIGIT combination of letters and numbers on a thin aluminum strip.
Don't be tempted to add anything to the number plate, as if you do you might bring the title into question. You can in most states contact the division of motor vehicles and they can look for special hidden numbers.
By the number your car is a late serial number in the 1970 run.
Good luck
Robert

Hi Robert,
Where can I see a picture of the chassis number printed on a cross member?
I want to see the first digit 1 or 2 should be necessary or not.
I could not find any sample of such pictures.
Thanks
Mac
