Default Series 1.5 FHC or Series 2 2+2?

A few weeks ago I joined and announced on this forum my desire to find the E-Type that I have always dreamed of owning. Since then I have immersed myself in this forum reading thread after thread about your cars and your experiences and it has been absolutely brilliant! Thank you all for your thought and knowledge sharing.

I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions on this thread title. Series 1.5 FHC or Series 2 2+2? Pros/cons, likes/dislikes. Personal experience and opinions.

I am looking at both and I look forward to your comments.

Thank you.

Two very different cars with different budgets to buy a good one ?

2 + 2 's are usually purchased by people who need a bigger car due to height or are on a limited budget and therefore need a lot of car for the money. The look of a 2 + 2 due to higher longer roof with the different windscreen rake is down to personal preference ?

If you have the resource I would go for S1 FHC, but it will cost more but always be worth more.

If your budget is to small for the S1 FHC but you can spend more than S2 2 + 2, then I would seriously consider a S2 FHC as there are still some good ones out there but the prices are now starting to increase as supplies diminish.

I took this option and have never looked back or regretted it

Choice is yours !

The coupe is the car that was proclaimed one of the 10 best looking cars in the world....It's no contest IMHO.....1.5 still has the graceful nose, too.

In my opinion the S2 FHC is the best car to buy. I bought one just over a year ago and love it. I prefer the styling but that's just me and was only looking for a S2. It took me 2 years to find a good one so don't jump at the first one you find. The S2 2+2 are cheaper but again are increasing in value too. If you are tall and want an E type this might be the car for you. Buy the best one you can afford.

Thank you for your responses. I'm looking at both at the moment. Found a few nice looking cars. All of them have their own merits.

Go for the series one or 1.5. Get the triple carb. more power and more fun. Make sure you get a manual! lots of auto's out there not so manny manual for a 2+2.

The series one/ 1.5 are getting more rare and more pricy. If you can' afford a series one then buy a good series 2 manual.

I've owned a '67 Series 1.5 2+2 for 45+ years. It has all of the latest features in the day. The rear seat was handy the the kids were tiny people. These days, with the slide moved forward has added luggage space.
I bought it as it as my ins. company at the time would not cover me for a roadster. I guess the many spending tickets may have been a stumbling block, Ha, Ha!

I bought my 1967 Series 1.5 2+2 in San Francisco in 1969 with only 5,000 Miles. It now has 42,500 and I am restoring it. I personally like the 2+2 body style. I never used it for passengers... just the extra luggage space.

I like the rear end of the series 1 and 1.5: much more delicate and aerodynamic appearing. I prefer the covered headlights on the 1, and will probably go that route on the 1.5 I am restoring.

In the day of their pertinent offerings, the 2+2 was for those seeking back-seat usage.

The coupe was offered for the 'non roadster' sporting type.

For current usage/value, the market greatly prefers the latter.

If you feel you'll ultimately 'use' the back seat, then go that way. If not, your investment and subsequent market acceptance (since we will ALL pass these cars along) will be better rewarded with the 2 place coupe.

Either way, there are worse choices to make.
